The group that oversees eagles Jackie, Shadow, Gizmo and Sunny is warning officials about the danger fireworks could cause ahead of Fourth of July.

With nearly all of the aerial shells, paper rockets and sparkly fountains that fuel America’s Fourth of July celebrations being imported from China, volunteer groups like Johnson’s and cities big and small have been closely watching the negotiations.

While all state parks prohibit fireworks, these are farther away from local displays, making for a quieter experience.

Hot and dry weather across California is fueling a Fourth of July warning from both the Governor's Office and state fire officials: illegal fireworks will not be tolerated.

Over 600,000 pounds of illegal fireworks have been seized in California so far in 2025, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said. That is more than double what Newsom’s office said has been seized on average annually over the last 10 years.
