Elon Musk’s DOGE email ultimatum to federal workers may have revealed internal tensions in Trump administration

Cracks may already be showing in the Trump administration, with newly-sworn-in FBI director Kash Patel sending an email to all his department’s employees instructing them to “pause any responses” they may have been working on following Elon Musk’s request that federal employees provide weekly summaries of their accomplishments or risk losing their jobs.

The directive comes after Musk announced a new measure requiring all US federal employees to justify their work.

Musk, who serves as co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency and advisor to US President Donald Trump, announced that federal employees must submit a detailed report of their weekly accomplishments.
