Mao Saigo won her first LPGA tournament Sunday, and it happened to be a major. The Japanese player won the Chevron Championship after a five-way playoff. Winning the tournament meant Saigo had to indulge in the Chevron Championship’s decades-long tradition of jumping into the pond at the Nicklaus Course at The Club at Carlton Woods.

Mao Saigo of Japan won the Chevron Championship on Sunday for her first major title, making a 3-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a five-way playoff.

Saigo was the LPGA Tour’s rookie of the year last season. The Chevron was her first victory, and she became the first Japanese winner in the event.
