Eskom has reduced load shedding to stage 4 until further notice due to the recovery of units at three power stations. This after the parastatal ramped the rolling blackout from stage 3 to stage 6 in the early hours of Sunday morning. Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said load shedding was downgraded to stage from 12:30 am on Monday.

Eskom’s recent announcement of stage 6 load shedding has raised alarms among political and economic analysts, who view it as a significant setback for the Government of National Unity and a potential crisis for South Africa’s economy.

While addressing the media in Pretoria on Sunday, Eskom CEO Dan Marokane stated that recovery plans were well underway, with numerous units already back on the grid.

South Africa got some slight relief on Monday after Eskom announced the end of stage 6 load shedding, lowering the level to stage 4.

The power utility did not say what caused the sudden resumption of power cuts, labelling it as "another temporary setback".

The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has assured South Africans that the country will overcome the current bout of load shedding crisis by the end of the week.

After a lull of a almost three weeks, load shedding has once again made an unwelcome return – and on a Saturday evening, when demand is typically lower than average.

Power utility Eskom says that load shedding will be reduced to stage 4 from 00h30 on Monday (24 February) following the successful return of most downed units. Eskom was forced to implement stage 3 load shedding on Saturday after five units tripped at Majuba and one unit tripped at Medupi.
