BJP leader Raosaheb Danve hinted that the Maharashtra Chief Minister's name has been finalised, while a Shiv Sena leader said Eknath Shinde is expected to return to Mumbai today as government formation hangs in the balance.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister will be from BJP, ally Ajit Pawar said today, adding that the two Deputy Chief Ministers will be from the alliance partners.

NCP Chief Ajit Pawar confirmed the decision for the BJP to lead Maharashtra's government, while the Mahayuti alliance faces delays. As caretaker CM Eknath Shinde deals with health issues, the oath-taking ceremony is set for December 5 with Prime Minister Modi in attendance.

Ajit Pawar said that the other Mahayuti allies, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction led by himself, will get the Deputy Chief Minister posts.

The next Chief Minister of Maharashtra will be from the Bharatiya Janata Party, and s/he will be backed by two Deputy Chief Ministers, drawn, most likely, from Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena faction, and that of Ajit Pawar's NCP.

Pawar added that the Deputy Chief Minister positions would be given to Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena and his faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The BJP has also confirmed that the new Mahayuti government will be formally sworn in on December 5, 2024, at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to attend the event.
