Microsoft is asking the inspector general at the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether agency management improperly leaked news of its antitrust investigation into the company, and make their findings public.

But in an email to the FTC inspector general, sent Tuesday and posted publicly on LinkedIn, Microsoft’s deputy general counsel Rima Alaily said that Microsoft has not received a formal legal process from the FTC and that the company learned of the information request from the Bloomberg article.

Antitrust enforcers with the Federal Trade Commission have opened a wide-ranging investigation into Microsoft’s business practices, starting off a big legal project that an incoming Trump administration must take up or abandon.
