Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £48.5million with a potential £3.5m in add-ons. The 20-year-old has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge through to 2032, after The Athletic reported that the clubs had reached an agreement in principle last week.

The 20-year-old has signed a seven-year contract which will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032. An England U21 international, Gittens initially came through the youth system at Reading before joining Manchester City's academy in 2018.

Dortmund improved considerably as a collective following the appointment of Niko Kovač, who adopted a system that reduced the need for a touchline winger of Gittens’ ilk. Width was instead supplied from wing-backs, while speedster Karim Adeyemi performed a more prominent role in Kovač’s attack.
