Meanwhile, army bases in California, Arizona, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas will sunset their MWE programs. European colonial settlers relied on horses for centuries, but official US cavalry forces are traceable all the way back to the Revolutionary War.

Per the report, the Army will be redirecting $2 million that currently gets funneled into the Military Working Equid program to programs that focus on unspecified “readiness and warfighting priorities.

Most of the Army’s horses, donkeys and mules,  are being sold or donated “to align more resources with warfighting capability.”
