Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer said in a statement Aug. 21 that he was "devastated" to learn the crosswalk had been removed in the middle of the night.

The Pulse Memorial rainbow crosswalk honoring the 49 lives lost in the 2016 nightclub shooting has been removed and painted over by the state, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer says.

“We followed all the FDOT regulations and rules when we installed this crosswalk,” said Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan.
