The circuit board for the electronic power steering assist could experience what recall documents call an “overstress condition,” which would result in a loss of power assisted steering when the vehicle stops and then accelerates again, which cold increase the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.

Rivian said on Friday it is recalling 17,260 vehicles in the U.S. due to a headlight issue that could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

Tesla said on Friday it was recalling nearly 380,000 vehicles in the United States due to a power steering assist failure that could increase steering effort, particularly at low speeds, potentially raising the risk of a crash.

The recall involves some 2023 Tesla Model 3s and some 2023 Tesla Model Ys, according to the recall report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Tesla began investigating the issue over a year ago, initiated a recall outside the U.S. over a month ago, and just filed the issue with the NHTSA in February.
