The U.S. Coast Guard said one person was missing and one person was in critical condition after the boat, with six aboard, overturned on Sunday in the Ambrose Channel.

One person was dead and another four people were in critical condition after a boat capsized off Staten Island on Sunday afternoon, city officials confirmed. The U.S. Coast Guard, the FDNY and the NYPD dispatched teams to the Ambrose Channel on the north side of the island after a distress call around 12 p.

Three people died following a boating accident near Staten Island Sunday afternoon, according to the NYPD. The incident happened around noon. Police say three people were pronounced dead at local hospitals.

Authorities responded to reports of a "vessel in distress" and an "overturned boat" with six individuals in the water around 12 p.m. Of the six recovered, one was pronounced dead, while the remaining five were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, officials said.
