If Canada seeks to retaliate over U.S. president-elect Donald Trump's tariff threat, the government should hit the U.S. where it hurt would both economically and politically, some trade experts suggest.

Trump is also counting on tariffs as a weapon to bend US trading partners to his will. On Monday, he threatened to levy a 25 percent tariff on goods from Canada and Mexico unless the two countries stop illegal drugs and migrants crossing into the United States.
