Shore towns in New Jersey and Delaware are bracing for the worst of Hurricane Erin as the sprawling storm continues traveling up the East Coast on Thursday.

Aug. 23. The combination of Erin, a Category 2 hurricane, and high tides will lead to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways in inland Sussex County.
Meteorologists are closely tracking the projected path and forecast of Hurricane Erin, which is the first hurricane to develop over the Atlantic this year.
Erin, still a large Category 2 hurricane, is expected to make a turn to the northeast and pick up speed later in the day. It should gradually weaken to a post-tropical cyclone by Aug. 23, forecasters said.
