Germany’s former finance minister Christian Lindner will end his political career following a disastrous election result that was projected to see his Liberal Democrats party drop out of parliament.

Christian Lindner, resigned Sunday after the party failed to cross the five-percent threshold to enter parliament. Early results showed the FDP heading for a disastrous result of around 4.4 percent -- seven percent down on the last election in 2021.
