Zohran Mamdani clinched victory Tuesday in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York, cementing an upset that already has shaken national politics.

Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist whose blend of populist ideas and personal magnetism catapulted his upstart candidacy, won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. Former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo came in second. The incumbent, Eric Adams, will run as an independent in November.
