Southerly winds are expected to increase through Sunday morning, peaking late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph (80-95 kmh), and perhaps as much as 70mph (112kmh) on the exposed Irish Sea coastline and some other areas of high ground.

Northern Ireland awoke on Sunday morning to a Met Office yellow weather warning for wind. The warning began at 3am and lasted until 3pm in the afternoon, with the highest gust being recorded at 62mph at Orlock Head in Co. Down.

Our weather may have had more of a feel of spring about it over the last few days, but wind and rain has still featured for some. On Friday, while the likes of Hull, Thetford and Nairn hit 17 Celsius (63F) many western areas were lashed with gales and rain at times.

The wind warning reads: “Southerly to southwesterly winds are expected to increase through Sunday morning, peaking late morning to early afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph, and perhaps as much as 70mph in exposed spots along Irish Sea coastlines.”
