In a significant development on Nov 29, the Supreme Court directed the trial court to halt all proceedings in the ongoing case related to the Shahi Idgah Mosque in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The court ruled that no further actions should be taken until the Shahi Idgah committee formally approach the High Court for resolution.

A bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, ordered the Allahabad High Court to address the Muslim side's petition within three working days of its filing. The bench advised the Muslim petitioners to challenge the district court's order in the High Court and scheduled a hearing for the week beginning January 6.
